Jonathan has worked in theatre for over 20 years.
He works across all scales, from large national theatres to community spaces, prisons and hotel rooms.
He now divides his time between theatre and working as a counsellor and psychotherapist.
From 2017-2023 he was Artistic Director of Attic where he has commissioned, directed and produced work by Roy Williams, Chris Bush, Beth Flintoff, Stephen Sharkey, Daniel Ward, James Rowland and Jeremiah ‘Sugar J’ Brown.
From 2016-2018, Jonathan was Associate Connections Director for the National Theatre Connections programme.
He was awarded the Regional Young Theatre Director bursary in 2010 to Sheffield Theatres where his production of Samuel Beckett's Happy Days won a UK Theatre Award.
Since then, has directed critically acclaimed productions across the UK at theatres including Manchester Royal Exchange, Sheffield Theatres, Hull Truck, Summerhall and the Watermill as well as in prisons, libraries, parks, community centres and festivals.
His first short film, The Send Off, was commissioned by BBC and has played at festivals internationally.
He trained as a director at Drama Centre London before working as an assistant director at the National Theatre and RSC to directors including Marianne Elliot, Howard Davies and Peter Gill.
He has worked extensively as a visiting director and teacher for many leading drama schools and was a tutor for Open Door, which helps young people from economically disadvantaged background to access leading drama schools.
